pApp is a web-based platform that allows a doctor and a patient to jointly define the scope of a personalized medical app. Such a tailor-made app captures exactly what needs to be known for certain complaints or a specific medical condition. That information can be used to show a patient’s medical story over a period of several days or weeks.
Based on the symptoms that the patient is suffering from, the doctor and/or patient decide which dataset needs to be collected. They jointly select the relevant Clinicards with the right clinical parameters from a web portal and compose a patient-specific pApp. Once installed on the patient’s iPhone, the mobile pApp automatically synchronizes with the Clinicard-configuration on the website.
pApp collects 3 kinds of information:
- Answers to specific (scientifically validated) questionnaires, some of which are included as predefined Clinicards in this version 1.0. More questionnaires will be added over time.
- Manual input regarding daily activities (e.g. drinking, eating, peeing, medication, sleep log) or tracking specific parameters over time (e.g. pain level). Several Clinicards with these parameters are included in this version 1.0, but more will be added over time.
- Input from sensors in the iPhone and/or a novel health patch (e.g. step counter, body position, activity level). For this purpose, the patient first needs to create an account on the sensor platform CommonSense (marketed by Sense OS), to which pApp has been linked. The pApp platform will provide guidance on how to do that.
The patient is the end-user of the mobile app, but may decide to share the collected data with his/her doctor. The collected information is visualized on the website and allows the doctor and patient to identify potential causal relations between clinical parameters (e.g. pain level versus medication taken). In this way, the doctor-patient dialogue is significantly strengthened.
pApp creates better insight in the patient’s health status over longer periods of time. This may support a medical professional in setting up additional diagnostic procedures or deciding on the best therapeutic intervention. However, pApp does not in any way replace any part of the care process; in other words, pApp:
- does not make any kind of medical diagnosis
- does not perform any kind of data interpretation
- does not give any kind of medical recommendations or therapeutic advice
The pApp platform deploys SSL-encryption for data communication and storage. All data are stored at a Cloud-based NEN7510 and ISO27001 compliant Hosting Provider with data centers in Amsterdam. Each individual pApp-user will be asked to agree with the pApp Privacy Policy and Informed Consent Statement.
